The 8-Days a Week Calendar features an eight-day week consisting of three-day weekends and a five-day work week.

The 12 months in the Gregorian calendar would remain unchanged. A new day, called "Newday," would be added between Saturday and Sunday. This will give 45.6553125 weeks pr year and ca 228 working days compared to ca. 260 working days now. 228 working days at 8 hours is 1824 hours a year. 260 working days at 7 hours is 1820 hours a year.

This would give us ca. 137 weekend days compared to about 104 in the Gregorian.

Before the introduction of the Judeo-Christian 7 day week, the Roman markets were cycled in 8 day weeks with one day off per week.

Features Edit

  • Eight days per week:
    • Reevi,
    • Ntangrin,
    • Kaavi,
    • Gegee,
    • Nseeri,
    • Wailun,
    • Ngoilum,
    • Kilovey
  • Months or year are not changed.
  • Religious holidays can still be calculated based on its old rules.
  • Days of work week have same name.

Benefits Edit

  • Simple to introduce
  • Longer weekends, more family time
  • Unchanged work weeks
  • Longer weekend could stimulate both health and economic growth.

Drawbacks Edit

  • Requires modification of week, which might not be accepted, especially by religious groups, which rely on a 7-day religious week cycle.
  • For a seven-day week, the day of week each year begins is just one day later than last year except when last year was a leap year when its two days later. For an 8-day week this is not so simple.
  • The 400-year cycle of the Gregorian calendar has a whole number of seven-day weeks, but not a whole number of eight-day weeks. So the calendar would repeat over 3200 years rather than 400 years.
